Soil
Different adjustments need to be made according to each person's environment and planting habits.
You can refer to our soil formula, but don't need to be totally identical.
The main point of the soil is : It has the characteristics of hydrophobic and breathable.
The soil we mainly use is (mix all materials) :
Fine granules of Black Volcanic rock, White volcanic rock, Vermiculite, Perlite (2mm), Peat soil, Carbonized husk.
How to care unrooted plants :
I、Planting methods
According to the length of stems or personal preference (choose one) :
Way1 : Buried in the soil about 1 to 2 cm, don't need to be buried too deep.
Way2 : Place on the surface of the soil and fix the stems with aluminum wire.
II、Do not move or touch the stems
Do not move the stems just inserted, it will affect the root grow.
Under normal circumstances, roots will grow within about two weeks. (related to temperature and sunlight)
III、Water, Sunlight, Wind
When the planting is completed, the first watering needs to completely wet the soil.After the soil to dry completely, Wait for 3 to 4 days and watering again.
Please give the plant 50% shade.
Mild sunlight can prevent plants from losing a lot of water or sunburn when they have not yet grow roots.
High wind circulation can help plants reduce chance of rotting stems.
After stems grow roots :
I、Master the right time to water the plants
You can observe the appearance of the plant, and when it wants to drink water, the surface of the stems will become slightly wrinkled. (Do not let the plants thirst too long, causing if the stems to be too wrinkled it may has life-threatening).
When the plant has finished drinking water, the surface of the stems will be full and wrinkles will disappear.
Learn and accumulate experience, you can know when you need to water the plants. Not just only watering when the surface of stem become wrinkles.
* In our climate and environment, we usually watering once every 7-10 days.
If the plant is in a state of water shortage for a long time, its growth will become slow and not easy to flower. Understanding how to replenish water in time before the plant begins to wrinkle is important.
II、Sunlight
Give mild sunlight about 5-7 hours a day. And shading 30% is better for growth and easier to flower.
III、Other tips
Most of the Asclepiadoideae varieties are less resistant to rain. Rainwater easily cause stems to infect bacteria or rot, so need to avoid exposed to rain.
You can disinfect the plants with bactericide during the rainy season.
If the color of the stems(the part above the soil) doesn't look right (Ex: From green change to brown or yellow) , cutting that part immediately and wait for the wound to heal then replant.
